چکیده

The achilles tendon is the strongest and thickest tendon in the body and is formed by gastrocnemius and soleus. The aim of this study was to study the distance between musculotendinous junction of soleus and the most proximal point of insertion on calcaneum. In the present study, the average distance between musculotendinous junction of soleus and the most proximal point of insertion was found to be 4.29cm.Interestingly in one case, we noted, that the muscle fibres of soleus were extending further down right uptill its insertion on the calcaneus. A detailed knowledge of distance from musculotendinous junction of soleus to its insertion on calcaneus is important for surgeons doing calcaneal tendon repair following rupture and also in reconstructive surgeries using soleus muscle flaps.

Long-term Low-Intensity Endurance Exercise along with Blood-Flow Restriction Improves Muscle Mass and Neuromuscular Junction Compartments in Old Rats

Background: During the aging process, muscle atrophy and neuromuscular junction remodeling are inevitable. The present study aimed to clarify whether low-intensity aerobic exercise along with limb blood-flow restriction (BFR) could improve aging-induced muscle atrophy and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) at the neuromuscular junction. Methods: Forty-eight male Wistar rats, aged 23–24 m...

Bilateral additional bellies of the soleus muscle : anatomical and clinical insight

Introduction The soleus muscle arises primarily by two heads, which are united by a tendinous arch. The fibular head of the soleus arises from the head of the fibula and about third of the shaft; the tibial head arises from the soleal line on the tibia. Muscular fibers of the soleus end in a broad aponeurosis and unite with aponeurosis of the gastrocnemius to form tendo calcaneus. It is supplie...

Background: Achilles tendon rupture is a common injury, which can frequently affect young, active people. Consequently, there are important socio-economic implications in choosing the correct treatment. There is considerable debate in the literature concerning surgical versus non-surgical treatment and most surgeons would elect not to repair a rupture within the muscle belly above the musculote...

Surgical repair of a chronic rupture of the rectus femoris muscle at the proximal musculotendinous junction in a soccer player.

A rare case is presented of a longstanding rupture of the rectus femoris muscle at the proximal musculotendinous junction in a semiprofessional soccer player. Its different and unique presentation, the surgical repair, and the remarkable functional recovery are discussed.

Open traumatic avulsion of the flexor pollicis longus tendon from the musculotendinous area: a case report.

A traumatic avulsion of the flexor tendon at the musculotendinous junction in nonamputated digits is a very rare injury. We present a 14-year-old girl who sustained a longitudinal, tensile, injurious force directly to the flexor pollicis longus tendon after an open thenar injury resulting in its avulsion at the musculotendinous junction. In an effort to minimize soft-tissue damage and preserve ...
